ABOUT:
Stephen Lewis, a.k.a. DJ SL started mixing at age 15. Growing up in and around Philadelphia, he was influenced heavily by the hip-hop and house DJ’s that dominated the Philly club scene. When he turned 17 he landed a job with entertainment company “Platinum Entertainment” and immediately started spinning college parties in the North East. Some of the schools included: University of Delaware, Penn State, Ursius, Drexel and Rutgers University.
A few years later he teamed up with the underground hip-hop trio “Foundation” as a producer/DJ/engineer and eventually founded “HG Studios” or better known as “Homegrown Studios”. After a couple years of working with local artists and musicians, DJ SL sold his business and moved to Oklahoma to be closer to his father.
Wasting no time he landed residencies at various nightclubs in and around Oklahoma City. Eventually he joined up with indie hip-hop artists “8 Bit Cynics” and produced numerous projects for them as well as joining them on two tours. While working with them he founded “Guerrilla Media L.L.C.” and started producing a television series entitled “Guerrilla TV,” which highlighted the talents of local artists and musicians.
After suffering a tragic house fire in 2009 and losing the majority of his life’s work and gear he moved to Salt Lake City, UT and is currently the resident DJ at “Lumpy’s Downtown” in the Entertainment District of Salt Lake. After 15 years of DJ’ing, producing and helping other artists, SL refuses to give up and is currently pursuing new projects including a trip-hop band and a streaming Mixtape website called Phunkenstein.
